Maths—No Problem!

OVERVIEW

While at Maths — No Problem! (MNP) I collaborated with cross-functional teams to help launch one of the company’s most anticipated products: Insights. As the design lead, I spearheaded the creation and implementation of a unified design system, introduced new design processes, and fostered strong cross-brand collaboration to ensure a cohesive and scalable product experience.

Situation

User Problem

Teachers struggled to track student progress due to time-consuming marking and unclear data, making it hard to take informed action.

Business Challenge

Technical and design debt slowed development and led to inconsistent experiences, increasing support tickets and risking customer churn.

Goal

Create a tool that helps educators quickly assess student data and turn it into clear, actionable insights—reducing their workload and improving outcomes.

Help teachers track and support students effortlessly.

Task

Design a tool that helps educators spend less time on systems and more time supporting students. The focus was on user needs, simple workflows, and clear functionality.

I mapped key roles—admins, teachers, and support staff—to design tailored, intuitive journeys. Working with users and experts helped uncover pain points and shape a faster, easier experience.

Key Goals:

  • Simplify role and class management

  • Make marking quick and consistent

  • Turn data into clear, actionable insights

  • Reduce support through better usability

  • Ensure speed, accessibility, and a unified design

  • Prioritize desktop, with responsive scaling

Crafting tools that do the heavy lifting.

Actions

Simplified Bulk Upload for Admins

Designed a step-by-step upload flow to help admins quickly import classes and students. Clear error messages and a consistent design system made the process smoother and more reliable.

Optimized Marking for Educators

Created a faster, more intuitive marking flow based on real educator needs. Added clear next steps and hotkeys to reduce ambiguity and save time in repetitive tasks.

STAYING FLEXIBLE IN A CHANGING WORLD

Learning & Adapting

As schools rapidly shifted to remote learning during COVID-19, we had to quickly pivot to support educators, students, and parents in a new context.

I led the launch of two new initiatives—Parent Guides and Community—delivered in just six weeks.

What I did:

  • Identified new user needs and success metrics

  • Collaborated with experts to ensure content accuracy

  • Built a scalable content structure and tested wireframes with schools

  • Iterated based on user feedback and usability testing

  • Partnered with developers to implement and QA the final design

  • Launched both products with feedback loops for ongoing improvement

Highlights & Results
